MNP: Internet Retailing Conference 2018

MNP attended the Internet Retailing Conference (IRC) this week, which this year was held at the Business Design Centre London. It was an early start for Pierre and Glen who had to catch the red eye train bound for London to make the conference!

The IRC is a retailer led learning and sharing conference, supported by industry solution and service providers. Primarily, this conference is used for networking, attending roundtables, workshops, masterclasses, listening to specialists talk about their fields of expertise and exhibiting products which aid businesses. This year, there were different theatres with talks from couriers, payment service providers, such as Klarna, and retailers such as Alibaba, who are soon launching in the UK to rival Amazon. The eclectic mix of speakers shared best practice, learnings and projects which will take them forward as a business.  Topics fell into four main categories; international and innovation, delivery and operations, customer and engagement and beyond channels.

In attendance were roughly 1,000 attendees at the conference, mostly different retailers (ranging in size), with 40+ exhibitors. Retailers such as Liberty of London, Dulux and Euro Car Parts were in attendance, enabling us to have conversations with regards to logistic challenges, becoming more customer centric, the implementation of a back office multichannel solution, issues with fulfilment and future plans for expansion. James Lee, Strategic Partner Development at Google, also stopped by our stand and James shared his vision of retailers engaging one stop solution service providers, solutions with perpetual expert management delivering to the clients ambitions.

MNP were at Stand 11 exhibiting the ActiveSeries suite. As Glen manned the stand, our Head of Multichannel, Pierre, attended some of the seminars and talks to maintain a wider knowledge of the current market.

Our stand was situated next to the Gnewt stand, which is a green courier solution backed by the Mayor of London. All their vans are electric which results in parcels being delivered with zero carbon emissions. With the current drive to ‘go green’, the need for companies to reduce their carbon footprint and the growing consumer trend to buy environmentally friendly, this was a popular niche stand, which worked well in our favour.

Overall, it was a great day and enabled us to network with a number of retailers and meet with consultants. The day also provided a chance to network with existing clients and partners, such Kumar Mehta from GFS, one of our existing partners. It was good to meet and network with everyone and we’ve got a few leads to follow up on, so we’ve got a busy few weeks ahead!
